The most common sign is that the knob spins freely on the shaft without engaging the timer mechanism, or the plastic D-shaped insert inside the knob has cracked or stripped. If you notice the knob is loose, won't stay on the shaft, or you can no longer select a cycle because the knob slips, it is time for a replacement.
Installation is very simple and requires no tools. Simply pull the old, damaged knob straight off the timer shaft and push the new knob firmly onto the D-shaped shaft until it is fully seated. The entire process takes less than a minute.
