This cartridge is designed for Delta MultiChoice Universal 13 and 14 Series tub and shower faucets manufactured after March 2006. It is compatible with R10000, R1100, R1800, and R2200 series rough-in valves.
You likely need a replacement if you experience a persistent drip from the showerhead, difficulty turning the handle, or inconsistent water temperature regulation. If the handle feels stiff or loose, or if you notice water leaking from behind the handle trim, the internal seals or the cartridge assembly itself have likely worn out.
Replacing the cartridge is a manageable DIY task that typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the handle, an Allen wrench for the set screw, and an adjustable wrench to remove the bonnet nut. It is also helpful to have a pair of needle-nose pliers to assist in pulling the old cartridge out of the valve body.
Most importantly, shut off the water supply to the shower. Since many shower valves do not have dedicated shut-offs, you will likely need to turn off the main water supply to your home. Once the water is off, open the shower valve to relieve any remaining pressure in the lines before you begin removing the handle and trim.
When inserting the new cartridge, ensure the key tabs on the cartridge align correctly with the slots in the valve body. If the cartridge does not seat fully, it will not seal properly, leading to leaks. Once inserted, tighten the bonnet nut firmly, but be careful not to overtighten, as this can crack the plastic components or damage the valve body.
